We congratulate Alison Coulter from the Winchester Deanery Synod and Christ Church Winchester on her election to General Synod. Thank you to everyone from across the Deanery who voted in the elections. Alison is one of five laity and four clergy members from across the Winchester Diocese who will join the General Synod for its next five year term.
The first meeting of the General Synod will be later in November. After this we will confirm who will be the Winchester Deanery's 'official' General Synod point of contact. We will then invite that person to talk to us at our first Deanery Synod meeting in the new year. We aim to build stronger flows of communication between General Synod, Diocesan Synod, Deanery Synod and our parishes and benefices. The General Synod is the national assembly of the Church of England, commonly referred to as the Church’s Parliament. It considers and approves legislation affecting the whole of the Church of England, authorises new forms of worship, debates matters of religious and public interest, and approves the annual budget for the work of the Church at national level.
