Deanery Synod - 14 April @ St Barnabas Church 7pm for 7.30pm
Summer Deanery Synod - 14 July @ St Cross Church 6.30pm Bring & Share (moved from 29 June)
On Saturday 7 November the new term of the Diocesan Synod will begin with a full day meeting in Bursledon, Southampton. In addition to some general business, Bishop Tim will address the new Synod as it begins a new term. The agenda includes a consultation paper entitled 'Mission and the whole people of God' which explores ways in which the Diocese of Winchester might re-imagine ministry for the future. It offers four general theological principles and four key themes for the way ahead, followed by specific proposals. Other agenda items include an introduction to next year's Lent Course, an update from our links with Myanmar and a review of funding our common mission through the Parish Share - celebrating the good progress so far in 2015, and the positive response for 2016.
At our own Deanery Synod Meeting on 18 November at St Paul's Winchester we will invite our Diocesan Synod Members to give an overview of the meeting. The Diocesan Synod Representatives for the Winchester Deanery are:
Jonathan Bright, Jude Greenfield, Steve Leach, Wendy Jones, Rev Brian Wakelin, Alison Coulter, Rev Angie Smith, John Spens, Rev Karen Kousseff, Rev Paul Kennedy, Rev Tim Gleghorn and Rev Jonah Watts
We congratulate Alison Coulter from the Winchester Deanery Synod and Christ Church Winchester on her election to General Synod. Thank you to everyone from across the Deanery who voted in the elections. Alison is one of five laity and four clergy members from across the Winchester Diocese who will join the General Synod for its next five year term.
The first meeting of the General Synod will be later in November. After this we will confirm who will be the Winchester Deanery's 'official' General Synod point of contact. We will then invite that person to talk to us at our first Deanery Synod meeting in the new year. We aim to build stronger flows of communication between General Synod, Diocesan Synod, Deanery Synod and our parishes and benefices.
The General Synod is the national assembly of the Church of England, commonly referred to as the Church’s Parliament. It considers and approves legislation affecting the whole of the Church of England, authorises new forms of worship, debates matters of religious and public interest, and approves the annual budget for the work of the Church at national level.
Wednesday evenings - October 14 and 28. November 4, 11 and 25th from 8-9.30pm with coffee and cake from 7.30pm in the East Stratton Village Hall. On the final evening Professor John Wyatt who lectures internationally on medical ethics will speak and lead a discussion on, ‘Being human in a brave new world’. Come to one or all five.
Everyone warmly welcome for what will be a stimulating and enlightening series.
