Mary Copping - Deanery Champion for Children & Families
I am happy to talk with anyone who wishes help in building up the work with children and families in their church. I plan to hold a Deanery evening on children and families at St Paul’s church in June 2019. This would be a time of people sharing experiences and seeing what we do at St Paul’s.
About me... I am based at St Paul’s Church, Winchester, a traditional vibrant Anglican church, with Eucharistic worship and community focused. My two roles are Assistant Priest and Children’s and Youth Work Co-ordinator I am paid by the PCC of St Matthew and St Paul for 221/2 hours a week for my work with the children and young people at St Paul’s and am also a Self Supporting Minister (SSM) part time. The two roles often converge. Part of my work consists of appointing University students to work with our children’s groups on Sunday mornings, plus co-ordinating volunteer rotas for the groups and ensuring that they have the correct resources. Plus supporting and encouraging them in their roles. There is a lot done in making connections with different people in the community – Baptism packs being delivered to families each year, contact with our Preschool and toddler group, also Peter Symonds College and Winchester University. Peter Seal and I regularly take assemblies at Westgate Lower and Western Church schools, We put on termly Under 5’s services plus monthly informal family services, workshops etc. |
